As the creative landscape continues to evolve, it is crucial to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) in an ethical and responsible manner. At Tafi and Daz 3D, we understand the significance of ensuring that works created within our AI platform are properly attributed to the artists who contributed their assets. That's why we are thrilled to collaborate with Mada de Leeuw, a talented 3D artist based in Sydney, who has been a part of our Published Artists community for over a decade. With our long-standing commitment to supporting artists and providing fair compensation, we aim to foster a trusting and mutually beneficial relationship with our creative community. Learn more about Mada’s fantastical work, and her take on AI and new technologies, in our latest interview below.
Tafi: Mada, we're curious about your primary sources of inspiration for your stunning 3D art. How do you envision AI enhancing or altering the way artists find inspiration?
MDL: My primary sources of inspiration stem from a multitude of experiences. Growing up in vibrant Africa has instilled in me a deep appreciation for the diverse cultures and captivating landscapes. Traveling to different countries and immersing myself in new environments also plays a pivotal role in finding inspiration. Additionally, the immersive worlds found in virtual reality games have been a significant source of inspiration for me. I'm especially drawn to the realms of fantasy and mythology. Bringing fantastical creatures and magical elements to life through art captivates me. It opens up endless possibilities for storytelling and exploring the depths of human imagination.
When it comes to AI's role in enhancing the way artists find inspiration, I believe it holds immense potential if used responsibly and ethically. AI-powered tools and algorithms can analyze vast amounts of data, including images, music, literature, and historical art, providing artists with new perspectives, ideas, and avenues for exploration.
Tafi: Fair compensation for artists is a fundamental principle behind Tafi and Daz's AI model. As an experienced artist with a deep understanding of the 3D art realm, how important is fair compensation to you, and how has it impacted your artistic journey personally?
MDL: Fair compensation for creative work is of utmost importance to me. It not only recognizes the value and skill artists bring to the table but also fosters a sustainable and thriving artistic community.
The ability to work from home while raising my children has been crucial for me. This flexibility allowed me to maintain a healthy work-life balance and be actively present in my children's lives while pursuing my artistic endeavors. It also provided me with a sense of autonomy and control over my artistic career. When artists receive adequate compensation, they can invest in their craft, acquire new tools and resources, and expand their artistic horizons, benefiting the entire creative ecosystem. Daz's dedication to fair compensation and protecting artists in the integration of AI technologies resonates deeply with me and many others in the artistic community. The solution they are building, which includes proper attribution and monetization, addresses the concerns artists may have about the impact of AI.
Tafi: Given your involvement in the creative community and your experience with AI technologies, what message or advice would you give to other artists who may be hesitant about embracing AI in their artistic processes?
MDL: My advice would be to view AI as a powerful tool while keeping ethical considerations and copyright issues in mind. AI can be an incredible asset in our artistic journey, serving as a concept machine to ignite imagination and fuel creativity. It can be a collaborator that amplifies artistic vision and helps discover new possibilities. The text-based AI from Tafi and Daz, which uses a proprietary dataset ethically sourced from the products in the Daz store, offers unique advantages.
Tafi: You have undoubtedly achieved various milestones throughout your artistic journey. Could you share one of your proudest moments or significant achievements that have shaped your path as a 3D artist?
MDL: There have been several significant moments in my artistic journey, but two stand out prominently. Firstly, being accepted into art school marked the beginning of my artistic odyssey. It was a significant milestone and a crucial step toward honing my skills and developing my artistic voice. Another proud moment was when I realized that I had mastered the art of 3D modeling. Coming from a traditional art background, I initially found it daunting, but with dedication and practice, I can now create my own models and even sell them in the Daz store. Witnessing my growth as an artist is truly remarkable.
Tafi: Final thoughts about the magic of art, AI, or anything else?
MDL: Don't be afraid to jump in, push buttons, and break things. That's how you learn. But most importantly, do what you enjoy doing. Time is precious, and it's best spent on things that enhance your life. And remember, if you're happy, that happiness spreads to everyone around you. I'm an eternal optimist!
